Calling all Australians!



Dear Fellow-Australian,

Every year, all around Australia, babies remarkably survive failed abortions – and are then left to die anyway.

Potentially life-saving care could be given, but it’s not.

Almost every state and territory lacks laws that require doctors to provide care.

In most recent parliamentary debates on radical abortion laws, the idea of protection for children born alive has been callously rejected.

The heartlessness of many MPs is appalling. But there areexceptions.

Queensland MP George Christensen is taking a bold stand for the unborn.

Using Australia’s international obligations (the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights) Mr Christensen has prepared federal legislation that would make up for state and territory failings.

Mr Christensen’s Human Rights (Children Born Alive Protection) Bill 2021 would give surviving children the best chance possible, by requiring health practitioners to treat such babies like any other baby – with a duty to provide medical care or treatment.

Unsurprisingly, the abortion industry has attacked the bill for responding to a “myth”. That’s why it’s crucial that we support the bill.

It’s important that we support Mr Christensen’s goal of gaining Government support – but we’re going to go a step further.

We’re asking you to send a quick message – right now – to your local Federal MP and all senators from your state or territory.

We need them to get behind this bill.

It’s shocking to realise the almost complete lack of protection for children born alive from failed abortions.

It’s incredible that we should need Federal MPs to intervene – and relying on our international obligations – but, thankfully, they have that ability.

Whether they will act depends, in large part, on the voice we now raise for the voiceless.

After a massive mobilisation in South Australia earlier this year, we actually saw some protections for children born alive there. So, it can be done.

If we combine our voices across the country, there’s no reason why we couldn’t see laws rolled out nationally.

The fact you’re receiving this email means you probably don’t need me to point out the obvious:

Freedom of religion and belief remains woefully unprotected in this country – despite promises from our political leaders.

But if we did need any reminding, the WA Government has made it VERY clear.

It has been reported by media this week that, only 48 hours after its crushing victory in March, the McGowan Labor Government issued a shocking edict.

State-funded facilities are banned from hosting events “where the content of the event does not represent the views of the West Australian government or the vast majority of Western Australians”.

These are taxpayer-funded venues. And you’ll be banned from using them if your views run contrary to those of the government.

You’d expect this sort of treatment in China, Cuba or North Korea, but in an Australian state?

It takes the idea of ‘cancel culture’ to a whole new level.

And it’s not only the Australian Christian Lobby (which tried to make a booking) that’s fallen foul of this totalitarian ruling.

A prohibition on bookings from organisations “identifying with countries whose political status is unclear or in dispute” seems squarely aimed at stifling critics of the Communist Chinese government.

Apparently Taiwanese, Hong Kongers, Uighurs and Tibetans need not apply.

These happenings underline the abject failure of our Federal Parliament to legislatively protect our basic freedoms.

We're moving beyond individuals coming under fire for their beliefs (think Israel Folau, Archbishop Julian Porteous and Senator Claire Chandler to name but a few).

We're now talking entire groups who will be cancelled for their beliefs.

WA is the latest state to treat freedom of religion and belief with contempt – and until we have some meaningful action at a federal level, nothing will change.

During the marriage debate of 2017, and throughout the Ruddock Review into freedom of religion and belief, we were assured our concerns would be addressed.

I should know. I appeared before the Ruddock ‘Expert Panel’ myself.

But here we are, years later, still waiting.

True, we’ve seen several draft Government bills, but they’ve fallen drastically short of what’s needed.

Among other shortcomings and problems, they do little if anything to bring the states into line.

They also treat our freedoms as just another ‘exemption’ under anti-discrimination laws.

This is not good enough. As I’ve said before, our freedoms are positive inalienable rights. They are rights that government should recognise, not pretend to grant to us.

We’ve passed nearly another full election cycle with little progress – and while COVID-19 has understandably occupied a great deal of debate, it’s remarkable how MPs have managed to find time for so many more apparently pressing issues than our freedoms.

In 2019, the Australian Family Coalition launched the Freedom Declaration – a clear call to our elected representatives to take the matter seriously and just get on with it!

To date, the Freedom Declaration has attracted over 20,000 signatories from all states and territories.

The time has come to re-launch the Freedom Declaration – and this is where we need your help.

Having 20,000 people on board already is a terrific start, but it would be great to see many more of our 50,000+ supporters and their friends add their name before we submit the document.
